We have completed the first month of Kindergarten!
UPCOMING DATES:
Wednesday Sept 23rd - Fall Holiday - NO SCHOOL
October 15th - End of 1st 9 weeks
October 16th - Teacher Planning day - NO SCHOOL
A Few Reminders:
- Toys are not to be brought to school. They cause a distraction to learning and can often be lost. Help keep your students toys safe by leaving them at home.
- Please only let your student wear shoes with shoe laces if they can tie them themselves. It takes up a lot of learning time for teachers to be tying 48 shoes throughout the day.
Literacy Update: We have started our Fundations program for phonics. We have gone over the Letter Name, Keyword, and Letter Sound for the letters 'T' 'B' and 'F.' These are the letters that we have specifically taught the correct handwriting formation. Help your child to remember where to start their letters, "AT THE TOP!" We continue to learn color and beginning of the year songs. Ask you student how the Pink, and Brown song go! In writing we are still working on our job descriptions.
Math Update: We are practicing manipulating numbers 0-10. We have just introduced the 10 Frames and how to represent and recognize numbers in that form.
Social Studies/Science: We have started out Community Theme. We are starting it with an All About Me Book that should be coming home on Friday.
Free Play Centers: We have just introduced the choice centers. Each student will have an opportunity to try each center out before they start choosing their center. This will allow each student to get a feel for what they like to do! Ask your student which center they went to today!
Thank you so much for the class donations! We are constantly updating our wishlist. Every donation makes a difference!
Thank you so much to the people who have signed up to cut and laminate. I will be sending home the Cut At Home packets today. I will email volunteers to come in and laminate the first batch that has come back cut.
A FEW NOTES FROM ADMIN:
Dear SASC Families,
The Tallahassee Police Department has brought it to our our attention that our morning and afternoon drop-off and pick-up procedures are blocking the roadways and as a result impeding the flow of traffic. Below you will find a reminder of our procedure as it pertains to keeping the roadways clear. Be mindful of these procedures so we can be safe and in compliance with the law. The Tallahassee Police Department will begin enforcing this on Monday morning.
From the SASC Pick-up/Drop-off Procedure:
5. IMPORTANT: If you arrive at either entrance (West Virginia Street or North Duval Street) and there is no room to pull into the lot, you must circle the block or go to the other entrance. Per the Tallahassee Police Department, traffic from the school is prohibited from blocking the flow of traffic around the school.
Thank you for your cooperation!

Dear SASC Families,
We began our "Shubert Sleepover" last week in Guidance. Each day two students per class will bring home the Shubert Sleepover Backpack.
Inside the backpack is a Shubert puppet, book, journal, and folder with parent information. Please be sure all items are returned inside the backpack and returned to school the following day as there is another eager student waiting to take Shubert home the following day.
Going forward we will not send the Shubert Sleepover backpacks home on Fridays. Thank you so much with your help in returning the backpack and all items to school the following day.
Wishing you well,
Nicole Mercer
